Rotary

Rotary is the most-installed 2 post car lift brand in the U.S. dealership network — Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Toyota dealerships buy Rotary lifts under fleet contracts. Owned by Vehicle Service Group (VSG), the same parent as Forward, Challenger competitor Chief, and half a dozen other brands. Strengths: parts availability is best-in-class (every VBM dealer stocks Rotary parts), install networks are dense (any lift installer can service a Rotary), and the SPO series has a 40-year field track record. Weaknesses: the price premium is real — Rotary charges 15–25% more than a spec-equivalent Forward for the same capacity. When to buy: you're a franchise dealership, a high-throughput repair shop where downtime = $$, or a home-garage buyer who wants the safest resale value.

Forward

Forward is Rotary's sister brand under VBM — same engineering DNA, same in-column cylinders and cable-equalization architecture, priced 15–20% lower. The forwardlift.com website now redirects to rotarysolutions.com, which tells you Forward's positioning: it's the value tier of the Rotary family. Strengths: near-identical engineering to Rotary at a lower price, same parts network, same install compatibility, ALI-certified across the full commercial line. Weaknesses: fewer configuration options in each capacity class than Rotary; the model line is intentionally simplified. When to buy: you want VBM-grade engineering but don't need the Rotary badge — a very common choice for owner-operator shops and mid-size independent repair shops.

Challenger

Challenger is owned by Snap-on Industrial Brands. Manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky — the only major 2 post car lift brand with a U.S.-built full commercial line. Strengths: the longest warranty in the market (12 years structural on most models), the CL-series has a well-earned reputation for silent hydraulic operation, and U.S. manufacturing means lead times aren't tied to overseas freight. Weaknesses: model line is smaller than Rotary's; no 20K+ capacity option in the mainline (Rotary and BendPak both offer heavy-duty). When to buy: warranty is your deciding factor, U.S.-made matters to your business or your customers, or you're buying in a fleet contract where Snap-on's channel discount stacks with volume pricing.

BendPak

BendPak is the largest name in the home-garage and enthusiast 2 post car lift market. Publicly independent (not part of VBM or Snap-on), which lets BendPak experiment more aggressively with lift configurations — the widest product range in the industry, from budget 9K economy models to 30K super-duty commercial. Strengths: the widest catalog by far, aggressive pricing on economy models, strong direct-to-consumer marketing, and BendPak parts are stocked at more retail locations than any other brand. Weaknesses: economy models are not ALI-certified — you have to specifically buy the XPR line to get Gold Label. Manufacturing is China-based for the mainline; U.S.-made models exist but are limited. When to buy: home garage, enthusiast, small shop with mixed lift needs, or a fleet buyer of specialty models (mid-rise, four-post, mobile columns) where BendPak's catalog wins.

How to decide

What we DON'T recommend

Unbranded or generic-import 2 post car lifts sold on Amazon, eBay, or through generic online retailers. If it doesn't have an ALI Gold Label and a U.S. dealer parts network, it's not worth the $500–$1,000 you'll save. When it breaks, you have no replacement parts, no warranty channel, and no legal defensibility in a shop-insurance claim.
